A strong turnout, an optimistic atmosphere and timely content made the 2022 ACTA Eastern Canada Travel Industry Summit a big success.
Hundreds of agents and dozens of travel partners gathered in person to look hopefully toward the future after surviving the worst crisis in the industry's history.
Following opening remarks by ACTA President Wendy Paradis and Emcee Lorraine Simpson, G Adventures founder Bruce Poon Tip engaged the audience with a presentation titled 'Travel As A Force for Change.' Always eloquent and on-point, Poon Tip described a roadmap to creating an industry that delivers a positive impact as well as life-changing experiences.
This was followed by a panel with the compelling title 'How I Survived the Pandemic, Revamped My Business and Now I'm Thriving.' Moderated by Louise Gardiner, CTM, ACTA Board Member and VP The Agency Solution, the panel featured several prominent travel advisors sharing stories of resilience and success.
Following a networking lunch hosted by major sponsors Air Canada, Manulife, Globus family of brands and Visit Portugal, the day proceeded with a 'Grand Trade Show' featuring more than 60 suppliers and plenty of prizes.
Another excellent panel followed, with TripCentral.ca President Richard Vanderlubbe asking the hard questions to a group of industry leaders including TravelBrands CEO Frank DeMarinis, ACV VP Nino Montagnese, Monica Johnstone, owner and President of Uniglobe Travel Innovations and Stephanie Bishop, Managing Director, Globus family of brands.
Titled 'Rebuilding the Canadian Travel Industry - Together,' the panel looked at issues facing retailers and suppliers, with suggestions for a brighter future.
That was also the theme for a rousing presentation by Sandals and Beaches Resorts EVP Sales and Industry Relations Gary C. Sadler, who spent "the best part of his career" in Canada. Always a popular speaker, Sadler praised travel agents as "the backbone of Sandals and Beaches" from the beginning.
The day was capped by the 2022 ACTA Leadership Awards and a cocktail reception sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
TravelPulse Canada will provide more in-depth coverage in the coming days.
