As protests continue in Los Angeles and other American cities, Canadian officials are warning travellers to avoid the demonstrations and comply with instructions from authorities.

While the travel advisory level for the United States remains at green or “take normal security precautions,” the Government of Canada updated its advice on June 11, 2025 to include safety precautions regarding the demonstrations and curfew that has been imposed in parts of Los Angeles.

Americans are protesting immigration raids in Los Angeles with demonstrations also taking place in other cities including New York and Chicago. CTV reports “Against the wishes of California’s governor and local officials, U.S. President Donald Trump has responded by deploying Marines and the National Guard to Los Angeles to help quell the unrest.”

The United States Travel Advice page on travel.gc.ca states:

“Additional security forces have been deployed and a curfew is in effect for most of downtown Los Angeles from 8 pm to 6 am. Additional curfew orders may be imposed on short notice.”

The Canadian government links to the City of LA curfew guidance page and advises those in the area to:

  • Stay away from demonstrations.
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities, including curfew orders.
  • Monitor local media for the latest information.

This latest update is in addition to previously reported advice from the Canadian government regarding travel to the U.S.
