At the invitation of the Fiji Tourism Board, TravelPulse made the trip on the inaugural Vancouver-Fiji flight, the first direct flight connecting Fiji and Canada in nearly 15 years.

On November 25, 2022, the airline operated its inaugural flight between Vancouver and Nadi, capital of Fiji, using an Airbus A330. TravelPulse was on the 11:45 flight which is at night. So, from Montreal, we fly to Vancouver and then fly to Nadi. The journey is therefore of a total duration of 17 hours. The 12-hour flight is "not that bad" (we were a little scared, we admit!) since it's at night and when boarding, at 9 p.m. in Vancouver, it is midnight EST local time. So we board the plane tired and ready to sleep.

Fiji Airways Economy Class is very comfortable, considering you have to sleep during the flight. The seat reclines much more than normal, and the airline provides a blanket and pillow for each passenger. Also included in the price of the Economy flight: a hot dinner and a breakfast which is served 3 hours before landing. An entertainment system and personal headphones are also available to passengers.

So, after the evening meal service, the lights go out and everyone sleeps...until the lunch service. If you are lucky, you can therefore almost have a full night on the plane which lands at 5:30 local time +1 day.

Indeed, we cross the international date line during this flight, which means that on arrival, it is a day later. So we leave Friday evening at 21:40 (November 25 in our case) and we land.... Sunday morning November 27 at 5:40 AM.

The main island of Fiji is quite large and it is recommended, on arrival, to choose a hotel near Denarau and its marina, to allow you to quickly enjoy Fijian hospitality, but also to be able to make excursions. easily; considering that they almost all depart from the Denarau Marina.

On arrival we immediately left the port for the private island of Malamala, where there is a beach club, infinity pools, non-motorized boats, outdoor massage rooms and miles of deserted beach. . A must without a doubt! Back in Nadi, quick dinner and sleep. PS: The first day is the worst for the jet lag which is - 7 hours and 1 day.

The Vancouver-Nadi route became the carrier's fourth North American airport service. Recall that Fiji Airways currently serves Honolulu, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Vancouver is therefore the national carrier's first Canadian route.

Stay tuned to find out all about our trip to Fiji and this mythical destination that we are discovering for the very first time.
