The Caribbean is a popular destination for weddings, from quick elopements to full-fledged destination weddings, complete with dancing, dining, and fantastic food and drink. The Dominican Republic is an excellent choice for couples searching for the perfect spot to exchange vows and create great memories. The nation has endless options of white sand beaches and a variety of resorts that can take care of every need.

Resorts will make the planning simple, whether the couple wants simplicity or the whole package, including photographers, event planners, catering, wedding cake, flower arrangements, marriage certificates, and even spa treatments.

For civil marriages, the couple can send required documents in advance (things like passport, birth certificates, affidavits of current marital status, etc.) and then bring the actual documents with them. For religious ceremonies, they simply obtain their local archbishop’s authorization and deliver it to the Dominican archdiocese. Often times, the wedding planner or resort can assist with this process to make everything run smoothly.

Some of the places couples can consider include:

• Punta Cana, with dozens of miles of white sandy beaches, is one of the world’s great tropical getaways. The crystal-clear waters here are well known and widely celebrated, whether it’s swimming, snorkeling, surfing, or taking  catamaran ride.

• La Romana, a destination known for both sophisticated tourism and a rich cultural history, boasts world class resorts, world-class golf courses, deep sea fishing, fine dining, lovely beaches, and a great art scene.

• Samaná is a stunning natural sanctuary, and visitors here enjoy dreamy beaches, humpback whale watching tours, the surrounding green mountains, and a series of charming coastal towns to experience.

• Puerto Plata, in the island’s north, blends colonial history with the prerequisite jaw-dropping beaches, and throws in some natural adventure opportunities. From water sports to a cable car ride to Mount Isabel, couples will find plenty to experience here.

• Santo Domingo, the country’s capital, blends urban life with nature and history. Gastronomy, museums, 16th century architecture, Los Tres Ojos National Park, and the city’s Malecón are all part of the endless options here in Santo Domingo, the largest city in the entire Caribbean.
