Flair’s non-refundable tickets got a little less so with the introduction of a new resale platform. It’s the first program of its kind in North America.

“This service is about providing passengers with a better experience, even when they can’t travel,” says Maciej Wilk, CEO of Flair Airlines. “It’s a smart solution that offers our customers more flexibility while helping us optimize flight occupancy. We’re proud to be among the first to launch this kind of innovation in Canada.”

The reselling is handled behind the scenes by Fairlyne as a white label platform, meaning everything that customers interact with is Flair-branded.

“We’re helping airlines introduce a new level of customer service and flexibility, while maintaining complete control,” said Gilles de Richemond, CEO of Fairlyne. “It’s a customer-first approach that addresses a long-standing frustration.”

So How Does it Work?

Customers who bought a non-refundable ticket but are no longer able to fly can submit their ticket back to Flair to be resold. If the flight is at capacity, they will receive an instant resale offer. If there are still lots of seats left on the flight, the ticket will remain on offer. If it sells, the passenger will receive a resale offer.

Compensation is in the form of a Flair Airlines voucher, which is good for a year.

Passengers won’t receive the full amount they paid originally, but under this program, they have the potential to not lose the full amount of their non-refundable ticket.

Flair Director of revenue management & sales, Jean-Loup Senski, explains:

“Customers typically recover 50-75% of their total ticket cost, depending on their original purchase price. We provide a full refund of all taxes and government fees, which constitute a significant portion of airfare in Canada. The refund breakdown includes:

  • 100% of taxes refunded.
  • 50% of the base fare.
  • 50% of eligible ancillaries such as checked bags, carry-ons, and bundles.

This structure ensures customers receive maximum value while enabling us to resell the seat at competitive market rates.”

Note that other ancillaries (e.g., seat selection, priority boarding) are not included in the resale value.

Additional eligibility requirements include:

  • The ticket must have been purchased through the Flair Airlines website (not through a third party seller).
  • The resale goes by booking, not individual ticket. So if there are multiple people on the booking, they all must submit their tickets for resale.
  • Resale tickets must be for travel longer than 26 hours away. So if your flight is in five hours, you won’t be able to submit it. The ticket must also be submitted more than 24 hours after it was purchased.

The program is designed to relieve some of the frustrations customers face when they are unable to travel on the ticket they purchased. It also helps Flair have better seat utilization on high-demand flights.

“Our goal is to maximize customer recovery while efficiently reselling inventory,” Senski tells TravelPulse Canada. “It's a win-win approach that puts money back in travellers' pockets while helping us optimize our load factors.”

Tickets can be submitted for resale at www.flyflair.com/resell.
