Air Canada's mobile app has been named Best Airline App at the 2026 World Aviation Festival in Lisbon, taking the top spot in the event's Battle of the Airline Apps competition.
A panel of industry judges evaluated three airline finalists, selecting Air Canada's app for its ability to bring together different stages of the travel experience, from booking and check-in to connecting flights and arrival.
"Travel has always rewarded the people who know the system. We want every customer to travel like an expert, whether it's their first flight or their hundredth," said Carlos Faxas, Vice President, Digital Products, Air Canada.
"That means an app that anticipates what you need next, like directions to your connecting gate the moment you land and brings you closer to the people behind your trip, like the Air Canada team member who loaded your bag. Our ambition is to build the best airline app in the world. This recognition validates our progress in that journey, and we continue to be guided by feedback from our customers and coworkers alike.”
Air Canada introduced several updates to its app in 2026, including a redesigned home screen that adjusts based on where passengers are in their journey. Information such as check-in details, boarding passes, flight status and baggage tracking is displayed when it becomes relevant.
For passengers connecting through Air Canada's hubs in Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver, the app also provides directions to their next departure gate.
Other additions include a low-fare calendar and side-by-side fare comparisons, allowing customers to review fare rules and baggage allowances before booking.
The airline has also introduced a new "Bravo" button, which allows passengers to recognize Air Canada employees who have made a positive impression during their travels.
The feature builds on the airline's existing "Bag Buddy" function, which identifies the employee responsible for loading a passenger's luggage.
According to Air Canada, its mobile app has been downloaded more than 23 million times.
The latest award follows previous recognition for the airline's digital platforms, including Webby Honoree distinctions for the Air Canada app in 2022 and aircanada.com in 2025.
The Air Canada app is available to download free of charge.
