The Government of Canada has issued expanded travel advisories across the Caribbean as Hurricane Melissa continues to strengthen.
Melissa’s path has already turned deadly. Officials say at least three people have been killed in Haiti and another in the Dominican Republic, with one person still missing.
The storm is expected to impact the Bahamas on or around October 29, 2025.
Air Canada, WestJet, and Air Transat have activated flexible rebooking policies for affected flights to Jamaica, Cuba, and other Caribbean destinations, while Sunwing confirmed cancellations for WestJet-operated flights to Montego Bay during the closure.

The Government of Canada’s travel advisory site has also been updated to state that Canadians should avoid all travel to Jamaica due to the dangers posed by Melissa.
Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport is closed until noon on Oct. 29.
According to the advisory, the storm is likely to bring “excessive rainfall and violent winds” that could trigger flash flooding and landslides, as well as severely disrupt essential services including transportation, power, water, food supply, telecommunications, emergency response, and medical care.

Travellers currently in the affected areas are urged to “exercise caution, monitor local news and weather reports, and follow the instructions of local authorities.”
