Four Seasons Safari & Islands Collection Announce New Conservation Travel Experiences

A handful of Four Seasons properties across Africa and the Indian Ocean are now offering guests a chance to participate in conservation initiatives meant protect the planet and its wildlife.

The properties, part of the brand’s Safari and Islands Collection, will offer both on-land and underwater opportunities for guests to immerse themselves in local conservation efforts first-hand or opportunities to experience wildlife in new ways.

Among the Four Seasons properties where guests can have these experiences is Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island; Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita, and Four Seasons Safari Lodge, Serengeti.

Here’s a closer look at some of the notable experiences on offer.

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles

Located along the secluded Petite Anse bay on the southwest coast of Mahé, Seychelles’ largest island, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles sits above one of the destination's most treasured beaches.

And with sustainability at the core of this resort, guests are able to join a marine biologist from the WiseOceans (a global provider of marine education and conservation services) on snorkel tours of a local reef to spot marine life, from kaleidoscopic fish like pufferfish, tangs and angel fish, to sea turtles and even the occasional whale sharks during their seasonal migration. 

But this isn’t just a snorkeling excursion. Guests interested in finding out more about the resort's marine conservation efforts can head to the Coral Cabana to learn about the pioneering coral lines Petite Anse Reef Restoration Project. The project is a first of its kind on Mahe that involves a unique method of coral reef restoration developed specifically for the location.

Those who want to help can volunteer to string and plant a line of coral into the nursery themselves.

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island

Sitting on its very own private island, (about a 35 minute flight from Mahè) Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island is a castaway paradise.

The 900-acre island island is edged by 14 kilometers of white-sand beaches and offers a world of untouched nature, where giant Aldabra tortoises roam the grounds and rays and sea turtles swim along the shore.

Some of the highlight wildlife experiences here include Humpback Whale Watching adventures with Blue Safari to explore the pristine surrounding reefs that teem with marine life, and spending time at the Tortoise Sanctuary with George, Philly, Big Pete and more, the island’s famed giant Aldabra tortoises.

Through the resort’s tortoise adoption program, guests can play an active role in supporting the sanctuary’s efforts to protect this endangered species.

The hotel also recently introduced a new, immersive Farm-to-Fork Experience designed to connect guests to the island, its traditions, and its natural resources. The experience begins at the hotel’s organic gardens to handpick a selection of island-grown ingredients, including papaya, fresh fig, tomato, aubergine and pumpkin, before a traditional Creole cooking class.

Local chefs are on hand to bring the experience to life with their knowledge, sharing the stories behind the ingredients and techniques used in authentic Creole cuisine.

Located on the lush east coast of Mauritius, between a sparkling turquoise lagoon and the majestic Bambou mountain, Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita is a nature-lover’s paradise.

The waters surrounding the resort are home to a unique rare and endangered seahorse species.

Guests who want to have an impact while visiting can join Rick-Ernest Bonnier, resort ocean environment manager, to learn more about the hotel’s Seahorse Conservation Project during snorkeling trips. While snorkeling guests can provide hands-on support by helping to collect vital data about the seahorse populations.

There’s also daily Resort Nature Walks where guests to learn about Mauritius's endemic trees and plants and colorful wildlife by visiting the hotel’s endemic nursery.

Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita is currently closed for an extensive refurbishment and will re-open with a new look at the end of 2025.

Nestled in the heart of the Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti offers the opportunity to witness Africa’s iconic wildlife in their natural habitat.

Guests here can participate in the traditional game drives, where rangers take visitors to the best locations for a chance at encountering the Big Five up close. Or guests may have the opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring Great Migration.

Still other options include sunrise hot air balloon safaris over the majestic savannah, (followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush) and walking safaris where guests can learn about the finer details of the Serengeti (including birds flora and animal tracking).

And with conservation at its core, the hotel’s unique on-site Discovery Center provides an opportunity to learn more about the property’s extensive environmental initiatives, including its Rhino Conservation Project and Frankfurt Zoological Society’s Serengeti De-Snaring Project and local community initiatives.
