Passengers flying out of Edmonton International Airport (YEG) will have a few more direct options in the upcoming seasons, thanks to Porter Airlines, AIr Canada, Flair and Lufthansa’s leisure line, Discover.
Porter is making the biggest impact, with four sun routes launching for the upcoming winter season. Direct flights to Puerto Vallarta, Phoenix, Las Vegas and a second flight to Los Cabos will all help warmth-deprived Edmontonians get to the sun without having to make a connection at a larger hub.
Air Canada will operate a flight between YEG and New York through Liberty Newark next summer, as part of the airline’s expanded transborder service, which also includes increased passenger volumes to San Francisco from YEG. The Edmonton-Newark route will operate four times weekly from June 1 to Oct. 17, 2027.
Flair announced last month that it will be launching the first-of-its-kind flight between Edmonton and Saint John, N.B. (YSJ). The twice-weekly flights will launch June 15, 2027.
And Discover Airlines will add Edmonton to its Canadian gateways when it begins operating flights between the Alberta capital and Frankfurt. The airline will begin Airbus A330-300 direct overnight flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays next year on June 1. They will run until Oct. 30.
James Jackson, vice president of air service and business development at Edmonton International Airport, said airlines follow appetites for travel and the new routes are a reflection of that. “I think that’s indicative of the demand that Edmontonians and Albertans have to travel,” he told CTV News.
