Air Canada will no longer be operating a handful of flights to India, UAE, Singapore and Algeria. The routes to Delhi, Dubai and Algiers had been suspended for 2026 but had been anticipated to return for 2027.
Delhi and Mumbai, India
Aviation site Simple Flying reports that Calgary-Delhi and Toronto-Mumbai, which operated as winter seasonal fifth-freedom flights via London Heathrow will not be returning. Until March 2025, Air Canada had flown direct between Toronto and Mumbai but had to re-route through the U.K. when Russian airspace became unavailable following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Dubai, UAE
Also on the chopping block is Air Canada’s Vancouver-Dubai route which has not operated since March 2025. The route was part of the codeshare agreement with Emirates which allowed passengers to connect through Dubai to Emirates destinations on a single ticket. According to Simple Flying, booking data for the final season showed that India, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Sri Lanka were the five most popular countries for Vancouver passengers traveling via Dubai. However, there are plenty of options for passengers flying to those destinations and connections in Hong Kong, London Heathrow, Delhi, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Montreal, Paris, Toronto and Seattle get more passenger traffic. Air Canada’s traffic to Dubai will now be consolidated through Toronto, although flights are presently suspended until March 2027 due to geopolitical tensions in the area.
Singapore
Vancouver is also facing another cut. In January 2027, Air Canada will conclude its service to Singapore, currently the airline’s longest. Travel between Western Canada and Southeast Asia. It is served by a number of one-stop options with connections through hubs in Hong Kong, Taipei, and Tokyo. The route no longer makes financial sense for the airline to continue. A spokesperson told local Vancouver news outlet The Straits Times, “despite significant efforts and resources invested in the Vancouver-Singapore route for close to three years by Air Canada and other partners, the route regrettably did not meet the business targets that would enable this service to remain sustainable.”
Air Canada will continue to serve Southeast Asia nonstop from Vancouver with its Vancouver-Bangkok route.
Algiers, Algeria
Finally, Aeroroutes data shows that Air Canada’s Montreal-Algiers flight will not be returning as originally scheduled for June 2027. The route was initially suspended for 2026 after it concluded its season in March 2025 but has now been removed from the schedule for 2027 too.
The cancellation of this route leaves Air Canada’s Montreal-Casablanca route as the only flight it operates to the African continent.
