NYC & Company and six of their partners visited Montreal and Toronto on a Canadian trade mission highlighting new releases, iconic classics and neighborhood experiences from the five major boroughs. It was the organization's first in-person event in Canada since the pandemic began.
NYC & Company, the promotional office for New York's five major boroughs, was here to inform and inspire Canadians ahead of summer. From May 3-5, representatives from New York will meet with travel professionals in Toronto and Montreal. From brand new hotels, to star-studded restaurants, shows, exhibitions and events on Broadway and the abundance of multicultural experiences in all five boroughs, the City is brimming with energy and ready to welcome Canadians.
Participating New York City tourism partners include: Broadway Inbound, TopView Sightseeing, Empire State Building Observatory, Hudson Yards, Rockefeller Center and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt.
"Canada is a very important market for us and the objective of this visit was to make Canadians want to come back to New York. We wanted to present the destination and its novelties, since we had not been here since 2019," explains Réginald Charlot, Managing Director, Tourism Market Development, NYC & Company.
Canadian visitor statistics to New York are expected to return to 83% of 2019 levels by the end of 2022 and reach a full return by 2025. Canadian airlines are responding quickly to consumer demand by increasing the frequency of flights to New York, as the market continues to grow with more than 2 million Canadians crossing the land border in recent months (Source: Canada Border Agency).
Key New York City stats shared with travel professionals include major large-scale developments and openings in 2022:
-New York City's gateways have undergone exciting transformations, including all-new terminals at LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.
-More than 9,000 new hotel rooms will be added across the city this year, including the highly anticipated Aman New York, the new urban sanctuary opening this summer on Fifth Avenue; the Ritz-Carlton, NoMad, a new experience inspired by the essence of the upcoming new Madison Square Park; and the Hard Rock Hotel New York.
- The organization also announced its "Get Local NYC" campaign which encourages visitors to explore the five districts like a New Yorker. The campaign features individual travel itineraries by borough and highlights many of the incredibly special minority-owned small businesses in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, The Bronx and Manhattan. Canadians can also explore multicultural experiences through The Latino Experience in New York, The Black Experience in New York and The Asian Experience in New York.
"Our partners, agents and travel agencies are very important to us," concludes Charlot. "They are the ones who offer us the necessary support and they are the ones who sell New York, they are the ones who helped our customers during the pandemic. We are very grateful and proud to collaborate with them."
