Special Olympics Canada has named Kelowna as the host city for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2028.
To be held February 28 to March 4, 2028, this will be the first time the national Winter Games will be staged in British Columbia.
Approximately 1,300 athletes and coaches are expected to compete across eight winter sports: curling, figure skating, speed skating, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, five-pin bowling, snowshoeing, and floor hockey or floorball.
Events will take place at seven venues throughout the city. The Games are expected to generate more than $7 million in economic impact.
The 2028 Winter Games will also serve as the national qualifying event for athletes seeking selection to Special Olympics World Winter Games, where competitors from more than 100 countries are expected to participate.
