Cementing its commitment to Alaska while also meeting increased passenger demand, National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions will bolster its programs to The Great Land in 2027 with a three-year charter of the Greg Mortimer.

In 2026, the National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic SeaLion will operate their last season in Alaska.

“These beloved ships have been the backdrop to countless memorable adventures for our guests over many years,” said Lindblad Expeditions CEO Natalya Leahy. “We invite travelers to join us for this special farewell season.”

The 154-passenger Greg Mortimer, which is currently operated by Aurora Expeditions, was custom-built for navigating polar regions such as Antarctica and aligns with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions’ “vision to go farther and design new routes that deepen guests’ connection to Alaska’s wildest corners,” the company said.

The ship is equipped with an Ulstein X-BOW, enabling smoother sailing in more turbulent waters, Zodiac loading platforms and large observation areas.

Many of Greg Mortimer’s cabins feature balconies, and the expedition ship also boasts learning and wellness spaces “that complement the brand’s immersive expedition style,” said.

“Demand for our Alaska voyages continues to grow, and I’m thrilled that with the introduction of a new ship to our Alaska fleet, we can welcome even more explorers and also offer exciting new itineraries to our collection,” Leahy said.
