Increased Visits to U.S. Not Enough to Save these Air Canada Routes

Travelling to the U.S. continues to be lower on the list of priorities for many Canadians despite a modest raise in recent months over last year. While visitation to the States is still markedly lower than it was prior to the U.S. president’s continued verbal and economic jabs at Canada, the latest numbers from Statistics Canada show some Canadians are choosing to vacate the travel boycott and take a trip across the border.

The numbers still aren’t enough to bolster flagging air passenger traffic, though. In response, Air Canada has announced another round of routes that won’t be running in 2027. The planned route between Vancouver International (YVR) and Nashville (BNA) was previously cancelled for the 2025-26 season, and it will not be on the 2027 schedule.

Other flights that won’t be running in 2027 include those between:

  • Montreal and Seattle.
  • Vancouver and Raleigh-Durham.
  • Toronto Billy Bishop Airport and Boston.
  • Toronto Pearson and Charleston.

The Toronto-Charleston route was Air Canada’s only flight from Canada to South Carolina, which means Air Canada passengers will need to connect to a partner airline if they want to visit the Palmetto State.

Global News reports that South Carolina has been particularly hard-hit by dwindling tourism from Canada, citing a report from the University of Toronto’s School of Cities, which states that trips by Canadians to Myrtle Beach, S.C., decreased by more than 65 percent between 2024/25 and 2025/26, the steepest decline of any U.S. city.
