Caribbean Airlines passengers will no longer have to connect on their way from Toronto to Tobago now that the airline has begun operating the first direct flight between the two destinations.
“We wanted to create a direct route to paradise for Canadians, and that is exactly what this new service delivers,” says the Honourable Farley Augustine, Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly. “Canada is an important market for Tobago, and travellers can now fly directly from Toronto and discover an island that still offers the Caribbean the way it used to be: unspoiled, welcoming, and full of character.”
On hand to celebrate the new flight was a delegation led by Korice A.Q. Nancis, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL), alongside representatives of the Tobago House of Assembly and Tobago's tourism sector.
The flight will operate from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) on Sundays. The southbound flight takes just over five and a half hours. Passengers will arrive at Tobago’s newly opened A.N.R. Robinson International Airport (TAB).
The new airport is a major investment in the island's tourism infrastructure, providing a modern gateway for international visitors and supporting future tourism growth. It is designed to accommodate up to three million passengers annually and “celebrates Tobago's cultural heritage through traditional imagery” and features dedicated spaces for local vendors to showcase their products and flavours.
“The introduction of nonstop service from Toronto represents an important step in strengthening Tobago's accessibility and growing our presence in the Canadian market,” says Korice A.Q. Nancis, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited. “For travellers, it makes choosing Tobago simpler. For the destination, it creates new opportunities to connect more Canadians with the experiences that distinguish our island; our warmth, natural heritage, culture and communities.”
