MSC Cruises has highlighted six travel trends expected to shape guest bookings and itineraries in 2026, ranging from sports-focused trips to quiet, nature-centred getaways.
Fan Voyages
Sports travel is set to be a major driver next year, with millions of fans expected to follow their favourite teams to major events.
“A good portion of these fans will take full advantage of their practical travel and turn it into a fan voyage, by extending their trip into a full holiday and maximize their time in and around the sporting destinations with pre or post experiences,” MSC said.
Cities near MSC Cruises' departure ports are expected to see high interest from travelling fans. In the U.S., approximately five million fans are expected to attend major football events in 2026, including in Miami and Seattle, both MSC home ports. From these locations, travellers can combine game attendance with seven-night sailings to destinations like Alaska on MSC Poesia or the Caribbean on MSC World America.
MSC said it will also serve as the title sponsor for three Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix races in 2026, including Barcelona, Austin, and São Paulo.
“Formula 1 fans can attend the Grand Prix in Austin after a seven-night Caribbean voyage aboard MSC Seascape, sailing from Galveston, Texas,” the company said.
Rise of the ‘Me-kend’
Short, indulgent getaways, dubbed the ‘me-kend,’ are gaining popularity as travellers seek quick breaks to boost wellbeing.
MSC noted that three- and four-night sailings from accessible ports are in demand. Options include Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries from Miami or Port Canaveral, Mediterranean trips from Genoa, and Northern Europe departures from Southampton.
Kidfluencing
Children are increasingly influencing family holiday choices, with more than 80% of parents saying their kids help plan trips.
“Families will enjoy spending time together with experiences like family game shows and theater performances, and when parents are ready for a date night on their own, children can enjoy entertainment in the kids' club,” the company said.
Quiet-cations
A growing number of travellers are seeking calm, nature-focused holidays.
According to MSC, “Holidays will be used to restore a sense of calm, with 43% of travellers wanting to feel closer to nature and one in four turning to quieter hobbies while on holiday.”
Low-season travel
More travellers are turning to low-season travel for milder temperatures, easier access to attractions, and lower costs.
MSC said it will offer sailings to the Southern Caribbean, Greece, and the Eastern Mediterranean outside peak periods.
All-inclusive and personalized luxury experiences
Luxury travellers are seeking all-inclusive, highly personalized trips.
MSC Yacht Club, the line’s ship-within-a-ship concept, offers features such as priority embarkation, 24-hour butler and concierge services, personalized mini bars, and spa access.
“Personalization goes above and beyond with every detail attended to from the perfect pillow selection to a fully stocked personalized mini bar and late-night treats delivered by the butler,” MSC said.
