CUPE 8125, which represents WestJet’s more than 4,400 flight attendants, has announced a conclusion to the heated labour dispute that led to strike action earlier this summer.
The vote to ratify the second part of the collective agreement passed, 90.2 percent in favour with.92.7 percent of the membership casting ballots.
“This is a strong mandate from our members and recognition of the meaningful gains we made at the bargaining table,” said Alia Hussain, president of CUPE 8125. “This is only our second contract, and we made important progress, including making sure our members are compensated for more of the work they already do.”
The contract will be implemented retroactively from Jan. 1, 2026 and carry through until the end of 2028, with yearly milestones increasing wages, base rate, duty premiums and uniform maintenance allowances.
"We are pleased our cabin crew voted to ratify this agreement, one that modernizes how cabin crew are compensated," said Alexis von Hoensbroech, Chief Executive Officer, WestJet Group. "The ratified agreement reflects the collaborative efforts of both parties and provides a foundation for WestJet's continued success."
Hussain acknowledged the union will continue to advocate for its members. “We know there’s still more work to do over the life of this agreement and when we bargain again, we will keep building on the gains our members have fought for and continue pushing for better wages and working conditions for WestJet flight attendants.”
