U.S. Will Accept Canadians With Mixed Vaccines

Millions of Canadians who received mixed vaccinations will be able to enter the U.S. when new rules take effect November 8. That's the date when the foreign travellers entering America will be required to be fully vaccinated.

The U.S. Centers For Disease Control (CDC) announced late Friday that visitors inoculated with any combination of two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine authorized by U.S. regulators or the World Health Organization will be considered fully vaccinated.

WHO-approved vaccines include Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and its Indian-made counterpart, Covishield. With the new decision, travellers with any combination of these vaccines will be allowed to enter the U.S.

The CDC still does not recognize mixing COVID-19 vaccines but told CBC News that growing global acceptance of the practice caused the shift in guidelines.

"While CDC has not recommended mixing types of vaccine in a primary series, we recognize that this is increasingly common in other countries so should be accepted for the interpretation of vaccine records," CDC spokesperson Kristen Nordlund told CBC.
