Air Canada will relaunch year-round, daily, nonstop service between Montreal and Washington Dulles Airport (IAD) today with the departure of Air Canada flight AC8172.
Although a release from Air Canada states that the service offers "more choice for customers travelling between Montreal and the Washington, D.C., Metro area", the only other carrier offering nonstop Montreal-Dulles service is Air Canada's Star Alliance partner United Airlines, although the midday Air Canada flight does fill a gap in United's three-times daily service.
The Air Canada flight also offers well-timed connections to Air Canada's network to Europe and North Africa, as well as one-stop service to/from Quebec and Eastern Canada including Bagotville, Sept-Îles, Quebec City, Fredericton, Moncton, Bathurst, Saint John and Halifax, via Air Canada's Montreal hub.
"We are happy to once again operate Montreal-Washington Dulles (IAD) flights that complement our existing twice daily flights to Washington National Airport and strengthen our market presence in the Washington, D.C., Metro area," said Benjamin Smith, president, passenger airlines, at Air Canada. "We continue to strategically grow our transborder network with the recently launched Montreal-Dallas service and added flights to New York, San Francisco and Houston."
Air Canada Express will operate the flight with 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-100 aircraft, with AC8172 departing Montreal at 1:25 PM and arriving in Washington Dulles at 3:09 PM, and AC8173 departing Dulles at 3:40 PM and arriving back in Montreal at 5:15 PM.
Air Canada continues to beef up its transborder service out of Montreal, with flights to popular U.S. destinations like New York City (LaGuardia and Newark), Chicago, Las Vegas, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, and is the only airline to offer nonstop service from Montreal-Trudeau to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Denver, Tampa, Fort Myers, West Palm Beach, Hartford, and Washington Reagan.
"The transborder capacity increase this summer underscores our commitment to expand our global reach from Montreal-Trudeau reinforcing it as a hub that offers convenient connections from points throughout Quebec and Eastern Canada and to Air Canada's extensive international network including Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt and Casablanca." Smith continued. "And our expansion continues next year as we have already announced new 2018 Montreal-Phoenix seasonal service providing even more choice for our customers in Quebec looking to escape Canadian winters."
