Health officials warned that travelers passing through
Philadelphia International Airport earlier this month may have been exposed to
measles, marking the second possible exposure reported in the region within a
week.
According to ABCNews.com, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health
said an individual with measles traveled through PHL on September 13 and into
the early morning hours of September 14, remaining inside the airport without
leaving the property during the exposure period.
The potential exposure involved Terminals B and F, along
with areas connecting to Terminals C, D and E. Health officials identified the
exposure window as approximately 7:25 p.m. on September 13 through 12:05 a.m.
on September 14.
The airport exposure is reportedly not connected to a
separate measles exposure reported at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia,
which was identified several days earlier.
Travelers who may have been exposed are being advised to
check their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms. Early symptoms can
include fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash.
The warning comes as measles cases continue to rise in
Pennsylvania, as the state recorded 767 cases as of September 18, including 150
hospitalizations and four associated deaths.
