Global Affairs Updates Safety Warning for Australia

In the wake of Tropical Cyclone Fina, the Canadian government updated its travel advisory for Australia. While the travel safety ranking remains at green/take normal security precautions, an alert was added under the “Natural Disasters and Climate” section. 

The safety advice states that Canadians travelling in Australia may face excessive rainfall and violent winds leading to flash flooding and landslides. Essential services such as transportation, power distribution, water and food supply, telecommunications networks, emergency services and medical care may be disrupted.

The government states those in the affected area should:

• Exercise caution.
• Monitor local news and weather reports.
• Follow the instructions of local authorities.

 

As of Nov. 25. 2025 Fina had been downgraded from its peak at a category 4 tropical cyclone with winds of 205 km/h to a "tropical low."
