Nobu Hospitality is expanding into the Maldives with the launch of Nobu Hotel, Residences, and Restaurant Maldives, marking the brand’s first project in the destination.

According to a press release, the development will be located in Laamu Atoll on the private island of Munyafushi and is being developed in partnership with Sarat International.

Set in the Indian Ocean, the resort will include 26 one- and two-bedroom beach villas and 30 one- and two-bedroom overwater villas. The design will reflect Nobu’s signature aesthetic, with clean lines, natural materials and a muted colour palette.

The project will also introduce 10 Nobu Island Estate Residences, each situated on its own private island. The residences will offer private island ownership with access to the hotel’s restaurants, spa, fitness facilities and other amenities by boat.

Each estate will include multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, pavilion-style living and dining areas, private beachfronts with direct ocean access and a private yacht. Owners will have access to the resort’s services while maintaining a high level of privacy.

A Nobu restaurant will be located on its own private island, serving Chef Nobu’s Japanese-Peruvian cuisine. Additional amenities at the resort will include a full-service spa, fitness facilities, a diving centre, tennis courts, event space and a main swimming pool.

Architecture and interiors will draw from Nobu’s Japanese heritage, incorporating angular forms and integrating the design with the island landscape and surrounding ocean.

“The Maldives is a highly sought-after tourist destination that has long been on our radar for a unique resort concept. Before we embarked on this journey, we envisioned something truly special," Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, said.

"As part of the new generation of Maldives hotels, we aim to set a new standard of rarity. Our priority is to create a superior island experience rather than follow a formulaic approach – one where design, world-class dining, and the natural environment harmoniously coexist.”
