A new hotel is always a delightful thing and two major hotel brands have announced openings, adding rooms to the nation’s capital and to the heated market of B.C.’s lower mainland.
On Rideau Street in Ottawa, the new AC Hotel by Marriott, Ottawa Downtown, is set to open on April 24. The 159-room hotel has a gym, sauna and pool, pulse meeting rooms and an AC Kitchen which will serve breakfast.
“This hotel truly embodies what AC Hotels are celebrated for—sophisticated style, intuitive service, and seamless guest experiences,” Stéphane Pelletier, Regional General Manager of RIMAP Hospitality Inc., said in a statement. “We’ve curated every element to create a refreshing, productive, and inspiring visit, and we’re proud to bring this elevated hospitality experience to Ottawa.”
A slate of new hotels are set to open in the capital region in the coming months and years. Also in the Marriott portfolio are the Moxy Ottawa (opening early 2026) and the Renaissance Hotel, set to open in 2027.
According to CTV News, the new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Ottawa at the Rideau Carleton Raceway is also set to open this year. The hotel will have 150 rooms, including 22 suites, expanded gaming floor with 1,500 slot machines and 10 restaurants, bars and lounges. There will also be an 1,800-seat Hard Rock Live theatre.
Over on the West Coast, hotel rooms seem to be in constant short supply. There will soon be 189 new rooms in the inventory when Homewood Suites by Hilton opens in the growing city’s Health and Technology district.
Set to occupy the top nine floors of the City Centre 4 building, the hotel will be a mix of studio and one bedroom suites, suitable for long stays, with separate sleeping and living areas, and a fully equipped kitchen.
"Surrey is on the cusp of a transformative journey, and the addition of Homewood Suites by Hilton is a vital step in our evolution as a leading economic hub,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “This partnership not only enhances our hospitality offerings but also underscores Surrey's appeal to businesses and visitors alike.”
The hotel’s footprint has 132,000-square-foot total space including an elegant 6,000-square-foot rooftop amenity space offering a bar and patio, BBQ area, fire pit, and backyard lawn areas.
The building is currently under construction and will be part of an eight tower development.
