A new hotel will soon make its mark on the Vancouver skyline. Set to sit at the base of the Burrard Street Bridge at the entrance to Granville Island, the 18-storey hotel will operate under the “WaterWalk by Wyndham” brand.

The 160-room hotel will have space suitable for extended stays, with large suites with kitchenettes, according to the rezoning application that was submitted to the city by Arno Matis Architecture.

The property will feature fitness facilities, a business centre/lounge, and a north-facing outdoor rooftop patio with seating, landscaping, and expansive views of False Creek, the downtown Vancouver skyline, English Bay, and the North Shore mountains.

The building will have a narrow frontage — only 50 feet — and is notable for its “hybrid mass timber” construction. The Daily Hive reports that this mass-timber construction provides environmental benefits, (compared to conventional concrete and steel structures,) and that lightweight pre-fabrication techniques reduce construction costs and timelines. “Such a building reaching a height of 18 storeys is also made possible by recent building code changes of both the provincial government and the City of Vancouver,” the news item states.
