A growing number of Canadian travellers are opting for kid-free and booze-free vacations, according to new data from Flight Centre.

The shift reflects a broader cultural reset in how Canadians approach their time away.

A recent survey conducted by YouGov for Flight Centre found that 57% of Canadian travellers are prioritizing adults-only travel, while 75% said they would consider taking a trip without alcohol this year.

“We’re seeing a real pivot from the ‘do-it-all’ mentality to ‘do-what-matters,’” said Amra Durakovic, Flight Centre Canada spokesperson.

“For many Canadians, that means fewer distractions, less alcohol and more connection—with themselves or their partners. It’s no surprise that our top two customer segments right now are solo and duo travellers.”

The survey highlights several motivations behind the trend:

  • Peace and Quiet: 76% of Canadian travellers said they want to escape overstimulation and avoid crowded destinations.
  • Fewer Disruptions: 41% cited disruptive passengers—like crying babies—as a top travel annoyance, and 26% said they dislike being stuck on planes with young children.
  • Sober-Curious Travel: The interest in alcohol-free vacations spans generations, with 88% of Gen Z, 76% of Millennials, 76% of Gen X, and 65% of Boomers open to sober travel experiences.

Durakovic notes that this evolving mindset is reflected in the kinds of trips Canadians are booking.

“With changing traveller demographics and desires, we’re seeing the emergence of new cruises, resorts and tours designed for adults, like G Adventures’ ‘Solo-ish’ program,” she said. “Cruise lines and resorts like Sandals, Secrets, and Virgin Voyages have long catered exclusively to adults, but now, many all-inclusives are adding adult-only wings or pool areas.”

She adds that this can be especially attractive to multi-generational travellers who want to vacation together while still enjoying adult-only spaces.

As Canada’s population ages and the number of dual-income, no-kids (DINK) households continues to grow—1.9 million as of 2021—the appetite for quieter, more intentional travel is likely to keep building.
