From Mexico City to Montreal, the just-released list of North America’s 50 Best Bars 2025 was announced at an awards ceremony hosted for the first time in Canada at Vancouver’s JW Marriott Parq.
Sponsored by Perrier (yes, a water brand), the annual list is a cocktail lover’s roadmap to the best in bar culture.
The awards celebrate the best in hospitality, creativity, and drink craftsmanship across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
This year's list highlights 26 U.S. bars, 14 from Mexico, eight from Canada, and two based in the Caribbean.
Mexico City’s Handshake Speakeasy earned the top spot for the second year, praised for its cocktail program - drinks that can take up to two days to craft. The city also dominated the list, featuring seven bars — including Tlecān (No. 3) and Licorería Limantour (No. 9).
New York City had 11 bars on the list, securing The Big Apple's tenure as the global cocktail hub.
Beyond the big players, the 2025 list showcases emerging bar scenes in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC, and Tulum.
Canada Pours Its Place
Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver each had bars featured, reinforcing Canada's growing reputation for elevated food and drink tourism.
Bar Pompette in Toronto was named The Best Bar in Canada. Other bars from Canada include Toronto's Civil Liberties (No.21), Botanist Bar (No.26) and The Keefer Bar (No.28) from Vancouver, as well as Cloakroom and Atwater Cocktail Club from Montreal at No.31 and No.36.
Civil Works in Toronto won the Siete Misterios Best Cocktail Menu Award for its "innovative use of water" to enhance spirit flavours. Ranked No. 55 on the extended 51–100 list, it was selected by the global Academy Chairs, recognizing innovation, design, craftsmanship, and storytelling in bar menus.
“This year’s list is a powerful testament to the relentless drive, creativity, and world-class talent that define the cocktail industry today,” said Emma Sleight, Head of Content for North America's 50 Best Bars.
“These bars don’t just serve drinks – they set global standards, push boundaries, and shape the future of hospitality.”
