Mexican Caribbean Tourism sought to reassure visitors that it is business as usual in Quintana Roo, issuing a release underscoring continued airlift and high hotel occupancy rates in the last week of February.
“The Mexican Caribbean thus reaffirms its tourism dynamism and operational capacity, consolidating itself as a hospitable and reliable destination for national and international visitors, and positioning itself as the World Capital of Vacations,” stated a release to media. From February 21-28, 2026, the region saw an average hotel occupancy of 85.4 percent and an approximate influx of 574,706 tourists, which it says reflects the confidence of national and international travellers in Quintana Roo. Additionally, 55 cruise ships arrived at the ports of Mahahual and Cozumel, carrying an estimated 146,300 cruise passengers and 4,969 flight operations were recorded at the state's four international airports.
The state's 12 tourist destinations continue to operate without interruption, with airports, ports, cruise terminals, transportation services, hotel zones, public beaches and tourist attractions functioning regularly, “providing quality experiences” to those who visit.
Vacation companies from Canada welcomed the report. "We are pleased to see that local authorities confirm the smooth running of tourist activities in the region,” says Renée Boisvert, Vice-President, Tour Operator Products & Sales at Transat. “This is also what we are hearing from our hotel partners on the ground: operations are continuing as usual, and travellers are fully enjoying their stay. Clients can therefore plan their trip to the State of Quintana Roo with complete peace of mind."
