WestJet was pleased to announce it has completed the rebranding of aircraft which previously operated under the Swoop and Sunwing brands. The updates to the cabins include upgraded Premium seating, an expanded Extended Comfort cabin as well as “enhanced amenities and a refreshed interior look and feel.” Passengers will be able to take advantage of free WestJet Wi-Fi presented by TELUS, seatback personal phone/tablet holders and modernized charging ports, plus seating that features an updated headrest with four-way adjustment capability and coat hooks.
"Unifying our narrowbody fleet is an important step in delivering the reliable and welcoming experience our guests and WestJetters expect from us," says Samantha Taylor, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer. "This milestone creates a stronger foundation for our teams to focus on delivering exceptional service and a seamless travel experience for our guests."
Additionally, WestJet has completed the retrofit of the Boeing 737s it previously revamped into the much-decried 180-seat configuration. The airline relented and has returned the aircraft to a 174-seat configuration following a public outcry over the cramped seating. The project was expected to be completed in September, but was finished ahead of schedule in June.
Looking ahead for WestJet, the airline is committing to the refurbishment of its legacy narrowbody aircraft to include the enhanced amenities and expanded Extended Comfort cabins now available on the airline's reconfigured aircraft.
The project is slated to begin in September and is expected to be complete by the end of 2027. Approximately 14 Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be updated this year.
WestJet operations teams are also prioritizing updates to the exterior of WestJet's narrowbody fleet. By the end of 2026, all WestJet aircraft will fly its teal and navy banner.
