Update: On July 7, 2025, the Los Cabos hotel association issued a statement in light of conflicting reports regarding the new tax. It reads:
"In light of recent concerns surrounding the Embrace It contribution program, the Los Cabos Hotel
Association would like to clarify the current status.
As of today, no regulatory framework or operational system has been formalized for the
implementation of the program. Therefore, all tourism operations in the destination remain as
usual, and there are no changes for travelers visiting Los Cabos.
Los Cabos continues to be a remarkable destination — renowned for its stunning natural beauty,
warm hospitality, and world-class experiences."

A new tourist tax called Embrace IT has come into effect in the state of Baja California Sur, a popular destination with Canadians, home to San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto and Mulegé.
According to the Embrace IT website, he tax will be used to "support ongoing development initiatives to improve local communities, including state projects for safety, education, sports, and culture" as well as funding "sustainability projects for local resources" that are used and enjoyed by locals and visitors.
The tax of 470 pesos per person (approximately $34 Cdn) is payable online and is required for any stay of longer than 24 hours. Travellers will be required to show proof of payment at points of entry to the state (highways and airports.)
Anyone with Mexican resident status, whether permanent or temporary is exempt from the tax.
Tourist Tax México (TTMx) will be responsible for collecting the tax and issuing QR codes as proof of payment. Travellers can pay the tax online through the authorized websites:
1. https://embrace.bcs.gob.mx/
2. Any TTMX-approved Travelkore Payment Link.
Payment can be made securely by credit card (AMEX, Mastercard, VISA) or Paypal.
