MSC Cruises is counting down to the debut of its newest flagship, and if the cruise line's latest announcement is any indication, thrill-seekers may want to start packing.
With six months to go before its inaugural sailing, MSC Cruises has confirmed that MSC World Asia will be officially named on Nov. 28, 2026, in Le Havre, France, before beginning its first Mediterranean season a few days later.
The ship is the third vessel in MSC's World Class series and will sail its maiden voyage from Barcelona on Dec. 4, offering seven-night itineraries that include stops in Marseille, Messina, Civitavecchia (Rome), Naples and Valletta.
For travel advisors, the newest addition to the fleet brings another large-capacity option to the Mediterranean market, along with a long list of onboard attractions aimed at families, multigenerational travellers and guests looking for action-packed vacations at sea.

New Ship, A Familiar Strategy
MSC World Asia follows sister ships MSC World Europa and MSC World America, continuing the cruise line's expansion of its flagship fleet.
"Our World Class ships have been a great success with guests, and MSC World Asia, the third of eight in this class, marks the next step in this journey," said Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises.
"As we look ahead to her inaugural Mediterranean season, we are proud to continue delivering ships that reflect our vision, innovation, beautiful design, and focus on the guest experience, with each one raising the bar even further."

Onorato also announced that Captain Paolo Benini will command the vessel.
"I'm also proud to announce that Captain Paolo Benini will take the helm of MSC World Asia, in recognition of his outstanding leadership on MSC Euribia, including during its recent deployment in Dubai. Having joined MSC Cruises in 2024 with a distinguished maritime career, he is widely respected for his calm, people-focused command and is the ideal choice to lead this remarkable new flagship."

The Attractions Getting the Most Attention
Among the biggest talking points is Cliffhanger, an over-water swing ride suspended 50 metres above the ocean. While MSC has offered headline-grabbing attractions before, this marks the first time the ride will be available in Europe.
The ship will also include The Spiral @ Tree of Life, an 81.3-metre dry slide that MSC says will become the longest dry slide at sea. The attraction spans 11 decks and draws inspiration from Singapore's famous Gardens by the Bay.
Families and adventure seekers will find no shortage of ways to stay busy.

More Than Slides and Simulators
Beyond the adrenaline attractions, MSC World Asia will offer more than 40 bars, lounges and restaurants, seven pools, 13 hot tubs and what MSC says will be its largest selection of MSC Yacht Club suite categories to date.
The ship will also incorporate design elements inspired by Asian culture, art and landscapes, a nod to its name and the latest chapter in MSC's continent-themed World Class fleet.
The official naming ceremony in Le Havre will follow a longstanding maritime tradition, including the ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship's bow.
From there, MSC World Asia heads straight to the Mediterranean, where thousands of passengers will get their first look at a vessel designed to combine resort-style amenities with some of the most ambitious attractions MSC Cruises has placed at sea.
