Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) christened its newest ship Norwegian Prima on Sunday August 28, which made history as the first major cruise ship to be christened in Reykjavík, Iceland. TravelPulse was there, with our team currently on board the Prima which left the Icelandic capital on Saturday morning.
The first of six ships in the groundbreaking Prima Class, Norwegian Prima, made her debut in front of over 2,500 guests (including TravelPulse) who enjoyed an immersive experience in Iceland's stunning capital and a christening celebration not like the others.
At 965 feet (294 meters) long and weighing over 143,535 tons with a capacity of 3,100 passengers based on double occupancy, Norwegian Prima offers the highest staff levels and space ratio of premium ships. It also features the widest variety of suite categories available at sea as well as a redesigned The Haven by Norwegian concept, NCL's ultra-premium key card only for ship-in-a-ship access. Its variety of recreational activities, including the fastest slides at sea - The Rush and The Drop - and the Prima Speedway, the first tri-level racing circuit at sea, provide guests with adrenaline-pumping moments. Spaces like Ocean Boulevard, the 44,000 square foot outdoor promenade that wraps around the entire ship; The Concourse, home to a multi-million dollar outdoor sculpture garden; and the expansive pool decks and infinity-style pools at Infinity Beach, offer guests a chance to slow down and relax.
Norwegian Prima will depart on maiden voyages to Northern Europe from the Netherlands, Denmark and England from September 3, 2022, before heading to the United States. It will then make trips to the Caribbean from New York, Galveston, Texas and Miami. in October and November before moving to her homeport of Port Canaveral, Florida and Galveston, Texas for the 2023 and 2024 cruising seasons.
