Royal
Caribbean Group is formalizing its charitable efforts with the launch of a
new foundation aimed at giving back to the communities where it operates.
The launch of the
new Royal Caribbean Group Foundation builds on decades of work the cruise giant
has already been doing behind the scenes, supporting education, environmental
initiatives and local economies in destinations around the world.
To kick things
off, the foundation is backing a new cutting-edge emergency medicine residency
program at Jackson Health System in South Florida,
where the company has been based for nearly 60 years. The program is designed
to train future doctors and help strengthen the region’s healthcare workforce.
“Strong
communities are essential to delivering exceptional vacation experiences, and
the Royal Caribbean Group Foundation reflects the company's belief that tourism
can be a force for long-term positive change,” said Jason Liberty, chairman and
CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “Supporting the education of emergency medicine
physicians in South Florida is an example of how we invest in the long-term
vitality of the places we operate, contributing to the essential systems that
help communities thrive and sustain meaningful economic opportunity.”
The new
foundation is tied to the company’s broader SEA the Future framework, which
focuses on sustainability, community support and innovation.
While the
foundation itself is new, the company’s philanthropic efforts aren’t. In its announcement, Royal
Caribbean noted that it has already:
- Awarded more than $15 million in
scholarships to over 6,600 students since 1998
- Supported more than 235 community
partners across 85-plus destinations in 2025
- Invested $13 million in conservation
work, including projects with the World Wildlife Fund, since 2016
- Donated $1.6 million to disaster
relief efforts in 2025
- Operated a school in Haiti for 15
years, graduating 4,600 students and awarding 700 scholarships
- Funded over 280 maritime scholarships for
the United Kingdom Cadet Program
- Helped update 26 educational spaces
for over 400,000 students and more than 26,000 teachers over the past 20
years
Royal Caribbean
Group employees have also contributed thousands of their personal volunteer
hours to causes like education, ocean conservation, disaster response and community
development initiatives around the globe.
