Good news is hard to come by in the travel industry these days, so it's a pleasure to pass on the news that Avalon Waterways operated more than 100 cruises in summer and fall 2021 without a single passenger or crew member testing positive for COVID.
Every Avalon passenger on these cruises in Europe, Egypt and the Galapagos Islands was tested in preparation for their journeys home, and not one had a positive result.
"It's a story we hope you will tell," Avalon said in a statement, "reminding your readers that it's possible to cruise without crowds, explore new cultures with ease and sail in intimate settings. And, there's a real appetite for river cruises among Canadian travellers."
Indeed, the number of Canadians taking river cruises has doubled over the past decade, and it's a lucrative source of revenue for Canadian travel advisors.
Avalon Waterways has announced several new itineraries for 2022. Here are a few of the highlights:
-- Active & Discovery on the Seine. On this new cruise that starts and ends in Paris, guests can choose from 23 included "Active," "Discovery" and "Classic" excursions.
-- Sex & the City of Lights. River cruisers can sail the Seine River (from Paris to Paris) with celebrity host, Sex & the City's Candace Bushnell.
-- Wild & Whimsy on the River. Guests can cruise the legendary Danube River (from Budapest to Deggendorf) with celebrity storyteller Cheryl Strayed!
-- Active & Discovery on the Moselle. This cruise winds and bends along the Moselle River, from Remich to Frankfurt, and includes 21 "Active," "Discovery" and "Classic" excursions.
-- Springtime in Holland & Belgium. Blooming just once a decade, this special sailing invites guests to enjoy the FLORIADE in 2022!
-- Danube Dreams with Oberammergau. This 12-day journey provides participants with the once-in-a-decade opportunity to experience Oberammergau's world-famous Passion Play.
Avalon Waterways' floating "boatique" hotels hold an average of 150 guests. On board its 'Suite Ships,' guests on two full decks enjoy 200-square-foot Panorama Suites, each featuring a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that open 7-feet wide (the widest-opening windows in cruising).
