WestJet and Air France/KLM have expanded their existing relationship, launching the earn phase of the airlines' reciprocal frequent flyer agreement.
Passengers flying on WestJet, Air France, or KLM, can now earn in the frequent flyer programme of their choice - either WestJet Rewards or Flying Blue - and accumulate WestJet Dollars or Flying Blue Miles.
"The ability to earn Flying Blue Miles or WestJet dollars on Air France-KLM will bring significant benefit to guests of all three airlines," said Ed Sims, WestJet executive vice-president, Commercial. "We are confident that our members are going to love earning WestJet dollars while flying on the extensive Air France-KLM global network, and we are equally excited to welcome their frequent flyers aboard and offer them the opportunity to earn Flying Blue Miles on the growing WestJet network."
By the end of 2017, both programmes will also enable members to redeem their miles or dollars for award tickets on all Air France, KLM and WestJet flights.
"We are delighted to be further bolstering our partnership with WestJet and to now offer our 27 million Flying Blue members the privilege of earning Miles with our Canadian partner," declared Jean-Noël Rault, vice-president and general manager of Air France-KLM Canada. "We are already working on the next phase, which will enable our members to soon enjoy award tickets on flights operated by WestJet. We also look forward to offer WestJet guests the possibility to experience our service and discover the extent of our worldwide network."
Flying Blue is the loyalty programme launched by Air France and KLM in 2005. The programme has more than 27 million members, 37 member airlines and more than 100 non-airline partners with four different levels; Ivory, Silver, Gold and Platinum
WestJet continues to eschew joining an airline alliance, and instead, signs agreements with airlines that make the most business sense for the carrier. WestJet currently has reciprocal frequent flyer agreements with members of both oneworld (incl. American Airlines and Qantas) and Skyteam (incl. Delta, Air France/KLM), while signing codeshare agreements with members of all three alliances, including Star Alliance (Air China).
In April, WestJet and Delta expanded on their existing frequent flyer agreement to permit members of WestJet Rewards to redeem for flights on select Delta airlines flights.
