American Airlines has announced two new seasonal Canadian routes from JFK New York. The flights, into Calgary International (YYC) and Quebec City Jean Lesage (YQB) will commence the first week of August and run a short season, until the first week of October..
YYC-JFK
The 3 times weekly YYC-JFK flight on American Airlines holds a lot of “firsts,.” according to aviation site Simple Flying. The route is already serviced by WestJet, but this marks the first time a U.S. carrier operates between the two airports. It also marks the first route on which WestJet and American will directly compete. They will also compete indirectly with United, which operates a flight between Calgary and Newark (EWR) in the summer season.
American launched a weekly flight between LaGuardia New York (LGA) in June, which means the airline will be operating out of two greater-NYC airports to Calgary, the only airline to do so.
YQB-JFK
American Airlines is also launching service between JFK and Quebec City. The route has been serviced by several airlines periodically over the years. The last time there was a non-stop flight between the two airports though, was in 2017.
American Airlines will begin operations of the flight on Aug. 5, 2026 and it will continue daily until Oct. 12, 2026.
Right now, the only competition on the route, according to Simple Flying is an indirect one: United Express operates out of Newark, flying to Quebec City up to four times daily.
