Airlines Make Ticket Changes Easier for Snowbound Travellers

Snowy conditions on British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island are thankfully rare, but when they occur at the usually mild West Coast airports, it wreaks havoc with flight schedules. For the second day of snow, flights into and out of these airports have been delayed, and in many cases, cancelled.

To help passengers deal with the chaos that goes hand-in-hand with flight disruptions, Air Canada and WestJet have made exceptions to their ticket change policies in order to accommodate passengers who had travel plans into affected airports.

Air Canada

Air Canada states that people flying Feb. 3 and Feb. 4, 2025 on flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge or Air Canada Express into and out of Vancouver International (YVR) and Victoria (YYJ) are eligible to make changes without being subject to a change fee. 

The Air Canada flight update page recommends that passengers check their Flight Status or call Air Canada's automated flight information system at 1-888-422-7533 before heading to the airport. WestJet

At WestJet, people planning to arrive or depart from Victoria (YYJ),  Nanaimo (YCD), Comox (YQQ),  Abbotsford (YXX), and Vancouver  (YVR) on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4, 2025 are able to change or cancel their tickets with a waived fee.
