Travel advisors looking to boost their knowledge on Jamaica have access to dedicated training through the Jamaica Specialist Program and One Love Rewards. Each module focuses on a region in the country. Let’s take a look at one of the island’s most storied and scenic destinations: Port Antonio.
In this chapter, advisors learn about Port Antonio’s rich history, legacy and appeal, all while working towards the Jamaica Travel Specialist certification and earning great rewards upon completion.
Get to Know Port Antonio
Located on the eastern end of Jamaica’s northern coast at the foothills of the Blue Mountains, less than 90 minutes from the Errol Flynn Marina and the Ian Fleming International Airport, Port Antonio is the island’s oldest tourism destination. It dates back to the 1880s and once attracted well-known visitors such as Rudyard Kipling, Randolph Hearst and J.P. Morgan Jr. The town’s Hollywood past and beautiful coastline make it an especially appealing destination for clients.
Port Antonio’s dramatic setting pairs misty mountain peaks with white sand coves and lush coastline. In the 1950s, the destination was put back on the map when Errol Flynn brought movie stars to the area and threw wild parties, popularizing bamboo rafting on the Rio Grande. The town has since appeared in films including Blue Lagoon, Cocktail and Knight and Day, with scenes shot at Frenchman's Cove Beach.
Where to Stay and Play
Throughout the chapter, advisors can also learn about the destination’s low-density accommodations, including boutique hotels, inns and private villas suited for travellers (and celebrities!) seeking a secluded escape.
Among its chic boutique properties is Geejam, which offers a state-of-the-art recording studio and spa. The more traditional Hotel Mockingbird Hill caters to eco-enthusiasts with afternoon tea and lush hillside gardens that attract more than 72 bird species. In addition, Trident Port Antonio’s 13 villas provide harmonized sanctuaries with oceanfront porticos and private soaking pools.
Port Antonio also offers natural attractions: from guided hikes through the Blue Mountains to waterfalls such as Somerset Falls and Reach Falls, or swimming at the Blue Lagoon. The region’s compact town center is easy to explore on foot, featuring Gregorian architecture, a craft market and access to nearby beaches.
Advisors who complete the program will gain valuable insight about Port Antonio and all of Jamaica’s diverse regions, while unlocking cash incentives, rewards points and exclusive discounts through the One Love Rewards program. Register today to start learning, and then begin earning.
