As Earth Day approaches, G Adventures is sharing the impact of its global reforestation program, “Trees for Days,” which has grown over 3.8 million trees since 2023 and improved the lives of more than 115,000 people worldwide.

Backed by G Adventures and its non-profit partner, Planeterra, the initiative supports 20 projects across 116 communities, with a focus on environmental restoration and community resilience in the face of climate change.

In a recent press release, the tour operator highlighted three standout projects—in Morocco, Sri Lanka and Madagascar—which exemplify the program’s commitment to sustainability beyond simple tree planting.

In Morocco, the Akrich Nursery operates in a centuries-old Jewish cemetery, growing fruit trees while strengthening Muslim-Jewish ties and supporting women artisans in the High Atlas Mountains.

In Sri Lanka, the AMBA Estate social enterprise grows crops like tea and cacao alongside native forest trees, creating jobs and boosting local incomes while helping to stabilize the local ecosystem.

And in Madagascar, the Soa Zara project is reviving wildlife habitats and reducing soil erosion with nearly half a million trees planted, while also supporting a women-led clean water initiative.

“Unlike many tree planting initiatives, where samplings often don't reach maturity, or local people do not see the benefit, Trees For Days brings local communities who are already suffering the impact of the climate crisis into the solution,” said Jamie Sweeting, President of Planeterra.

"We don't focus on offsets, but instead commit to growing trees and crops that are specially selected for the region and community need, helping to regenerate the environment while providing income to communities at the same time - a perfect example of community tourism and environmental initiatives working hand in hand."

Each tree planted represents a day spent on a G Adventures trip, turning tourism into a tangible force for environmental and social good.

  • G Adventures trips that visit Achbarou women's co-op and Akrich nursery include this Southern Morocco: Marrakech, the Atlas Mountain & the Sahara trip priced from $2,299*pp.
  • G Adventures trips that visit AMBA Estate include this eight-day Sri Lanka Express trip priced from $1,349*pp.
  • G Adventures trips that visit Soa Zara include: Highlights of Madagascar - as part of this 14-day trip, travelers take part in hands-on planting of  their own trees in the ‘green corridor’ next to Isalo National Park, while also learning about the reforestation project. Priced from $3,399* pp.
