Viking has officially added a new European river cruise ship to its fleet.

On Tuesday, the company took delivery of Viking Nerthus at Meyer’s Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemuende, Germany. The 168-passenger ship will sail on the Seine River and offer the company’s popular 8-day “Paris & the Heart of Normandy” and 8-day “Christmastime in Paris & Normandy” itineraries.

“We are proud to welcome the Viking Nerthus to our growing fleet of award-winning Viking Longships,” says Torstein Hagen, chairman and chief executive officer of Viking. “France continues to be a destination of great interest for our guests, and with the arrival of our newest ship on the Seine River, we look forward to introducing even more curious travelers to the region’s rich history and cultural treasures in ‘the Viking way.’”

Viking Nerthus has 84 staterooms and is identical to sister ships Viking Kari, Viking Radgrid, Viking Skaga and Viking Fjorgyn. It has many of Viking’s signature features, including Scandinavian design, a square bow, an Aquavit Terrace and several stateroom choices.

The sister ships are also equipped with a hybrid propulsion system with batteries and exhaust gas aftertreatment. They can be connected to shore power to reduce reliance on fuel while in port, and they have onboard solar panels.

Viking continues to grow its fleet. By 2028, the company expects to take delivery of 25 additional river ships, as well as nine additional ocean ships by 2030.

Once these new ships set sail, Viking will have 109 river ships in 2028 and 21 ocean and expedition ships in 2030.
