Riviera Travel (formerly Riviera River Cruises) has launched a new ship on Portugal’s Douro River.
On Tuesday, the Riviera Rose set sail on her maiden voyage, whisking travelers along the dreamy waterway on the company’s “Highlights of the Douro Valley & Salamanca” itinerary.
The ship features a brand new, split-level design—the first of its kind for Riviera Travel. Riviera Rose has a bright, open design with skylights, as well as a panoramic lounge overlooking the main restaurant.
“Riviera Rose represents an exciting new chapter for Riviera Travel, as we introduce contemporary new design elements and signature experiences that underscore our commitment to providing guests with memorable journeys through Europe’s most iconic waterways,” says Stuart Milan, president of North America for Riviera Travel.
Breakfast in the ship’s main restaurant is available as a buffet or made-to-order, with more than 60 options. Dinners are a three-course affair drawing inspiration from the Douro Valley.
The ship also has a sun deck, complete with a pool and lounge chairs. It’s also home to the Sky Lounge, a sunny spot for al fresco dining and drinking. Thanks to Riviera Travel’s new drinks package, guests can enjoy unlimited beverages during lunch and from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Riviera Rose has 57 cabins on three decks, featuring convertible double-to-twin beds, a bathroom with a rain shower, a desk and chair, a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a coffee machine and a tea kettle. Balcony suites are 258 square feet, while standard cabins are 172 square feet and include a French balcony and an indoor seating area. Cabins on the lower deck have fixed windows.
Travelers can choose between two itineraries aboard the Riviera Rose: the 7-night “Highlights of the Douro Valley & Salamanca” and the 10-night “Highlights of the Douro Valley & Salamanca with Lisbon Extension.”
