Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) has launched a new training program designed to help non-Indigenous tourism businesses learn more about Indigenous perspectives and explore their role in furthering reconciliation.

The training is delivered in three parts, with in-person workshops and on-line learning. Once completed, participants will earn a Certificate in Reconciliation for the Tourism Industry and gain a better understanding of doing their part towards reconciliation.

Legacy Bowes, a business advisory organization which launched Truth2Action (a program that offers support and guidance to organizations on their journey towards reconciliation) has partnered with ITAC for this initiative. It ties in with Call to Action #92 in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report, which calls on businesses to engage in meaningful consultation with Indigenous peoples, build respectful relationships and get consent before proceeding with economic development projects, as well as providing Indigenous peoples with equitable access to jobs, training and education in the corporate sector.

To learn more about the certification, please visit itdf.indigenoustourism.ca/reconciliation-training. ITAC also has other tools and resources available online at indigenoustourism.ca/tools-resources.
