Expedia Group's 2023 Traveller Value Index contains some encouraging news for Canadian travel advisors -- consumers in Canada, alongside Western Europe, are the most likely to travel internationally next year.
Forty-one percent of Canadians say they are very likely to book or have already booked an international trip in the next 12 months, ranking higher than the global average of 30%.
More good news: 72% of Canadian travel professionals believe business travel will return to pre-pandemic levels within two years and 77% feel the same about leisure travel.
This falls in line with what consumers are saying with 74% of Canadians planning to take a leisure trip in the next 12 months.
More Canada-specific data:
-- 65% of Canadian consumers plan to travel via an airplane in the next 12 months.
-- Canadians appreciate flexible policies (63%) more than average (51%).
While optimism in Canada is high in many respects, the study also found some areas for caution. Sixty percent of Canadians are more concerned about inflation impacting their travel plans in the next 12 months.
Sourced from the Expedia Group's first-party data and custom research of thousands of travellers and industry professionals across 17 countries, identified trends suggest there is no "one-size-fits-all" travel in 2023. Instead, the trends point to a year defined by the "no-normal," Expedia says.
"When we look at Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo data together, we see a detailed and robust picture of travel into 2023," said Jon Gieselman, Expedia Brands President.
"We're seeing a surge in trips to culture capitals, a new wave of interest in wellness retreats, and a spike in demand for outdoor destinations beyond just beaches and mountains - not a new normal but people branching out to unexpected trends in what we're calling the 'no normal."
