Air India will restore its 7x weekly service between Delhi and Toronto Pearson on Aug. 1, 2026. The airline was forced to cut back to a 5x weekly schedule in June and July because of high fuel costs.
As the flight returns, Air India made another announcement about the route: it will now be serviced by Air India’s newest craft, a purpose-built Boeing 787-9.
“As we continue transforming Air India into a world-class global airline, we are steadily expanding the availability of our newest aircraft and latest cabin products across key international routes,” says Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India. “The introduction of our new Boeing 787-9 on the Toronto-Delhi route marks another important milestone, bringing a significantly enhanced travel experience to customers between India and Canada while extending our most premium offerings across North America,”
The aircraft offers passengers Air India’s newest on-board experience, with 30 private suites in Business Class, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 238 Economy seats, in cabins that have been designed to blend contemporary design, advanced technology, and Indian-inspired aesthetics.
“Canada is home to one of the world's largest and most vibrant Indian diaspora communities, and Toronto has long been one of Air India's most important international gateways,” says Wilson about the choice to use the new craft on this route.
In addition to the in-cabin experience upgrades, the new craft will cut the flight time from Delhi to Toronto considerably, by no longer requiring a technical fuel stop in Vienna. This saves approximately three hours, cutting travel time from around 20 hours to 17. The Toronto to Delhi flight will continue to operate as a non-stop flight.
