Uber Enters the Hotel Business

Travellers will have a new choice for booking hotels as Uber launches a new partnership with Expedia Group. Canadian Uber users will be able to stay in the app to search, book and secure rides to a wide selection of hotels. The program was rolled out first in the U.S.; Canada is the second market. Once rolled out globally, users will have access to more than 70,000 properties worldwide. 

Those who pay for Uber One will have access to special savings on a selection of more than 10,000 hotels, plus earn 10 percent back in Uber credits on their bookings. 

Uber says the hotel booking capability of the app is part of its foray into the travel market. Other travel-focused aspects that have recently been introduced include:

• Travel Mode: a location-aware concierge that surfaces local recommendations, restaurant bookings (via OpenTable), and in-app "room service" delivery when you land in a new city.
• Uber One International: extending member benefits like credits and $0 delivery fees to rides and orders abroad.
• One Search: a unified "Where to?" search across rides, food, and retail in one bar.
