Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada's busiest travel hub, was plunged into chaos on Thursday morning following a fatal police-involved shooting that left one man dead.
According to CTV News, the incident occurred at Terminal 1, where emergency crews responded to the scene.
A statement on Pearson's website indicated, "Due to a Peel Police investigation outside Terminal 1 departures, passengers and vehicles are being rerouted to enter and exit through T1 arrivals."
The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has confirmed that it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The immediate aftermath saw significant disruptions to airport operations.
Flights were delayed, and passengers experienced long wait times as authorities secured the area and conducted their investigation.
One traveller described the scene as "something out of a movie."
"People were running, and there was a lot of shouting. We had no idea what was happening," the anonymous traveller told CTV.
The SIU has not released further details about the incident, including the identity of the deceased or the events leading up to the shooting.
According to reports, airport authorities have since worked to restore normal operations, but the incident has left many travellers shaken.
Security has been heightened, and additional staff have been deployed to assist passengers and maintain order.
