Bomb threats prompted evacuations and flight delays at several major Canadian airports Thursday morning, as authorities launched investigations and gradually worked to restore operations.

NAV Canada confirmed it was alerted to threats impacting facilities in Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver. In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter), the organization said all affected employees are safe and that temporary ground stops were implemented while security assessments took place.

“We are collaborating with authorities to address the situation and ensure the safety of all personnel and passengers,” NAV Canada said, advising travellers to check directly with their airlines for flight updates.

Later in the morning, NAV Canada provided a further update:

“Following the evacuation of a number of our sites and subsequent threat assessment by authorities, service is gradually resuming at affected sites. Travellers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest updates, as delays are expected. We thank airlines and passengers for their patience as we work towards normal operations.”

Airport Operations Update

Ottawa International Airport posted on social media that it was dealing with a security incident and warned that operations could be disrupted. Passengers were urged to confirm flight statuses before heading to the airport.

Montréal–Trudeau International Airport confirmed its NAV Canada control tower was evacuated during the incident. Flight operations have since resumed.

Winnipeg Airport Authority reported only minimal disruption, despite being among the airports affected.

According to reports, the FAA said ground stops were later lifted at the Montreal and Ottawa airports.

As of publication, no further details about the nature of the threats have been released by authorities. Investigations remain ongoing.
