Air Canada Rouge flight (1878) landed at Hewanorra International Airport on October 3, marking the reopening of Saint Lucia's fourth largest international market.
To commemorate the occasion, representatives of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) were on hand along with other tourism stakeholders.
Air Canada discontinued its winter service to Saint Lucia in January during the third wave of the pandemic. The first flight returns after nine months, following the cancellation of all flights to Mexico and the Caribbean earlier this year in February 2021.
The flight brought a combined total of 129 returning nationals and visitors to the island. A commemorative plaque was presented to Captain Christopher Clarke and crewmembers who disembarked to greet a delegation led by Tourism Minister Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire.
The return flight departed with 51 passengers and facilitated the exportation of 2,545 pounds of fresh produce to Canada.
In 2019, Saint Lucia welcomed over 40,000 Canadian visitor arrivals to the island. The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority says it will continue to drive targeted marketing and public relations campaigns in the Canadian market to drive awareness and encourage Canadians to visit.
AC Rouge will fly nonstop from Toronto (YYZ) to Saint Lucia (UVF) once-a-week every Sunday, this month, followed by two weekly flights (Friday & Sunday) from October 31st. The winter schedule will include four weekly flights (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) as of December 25.
Saint Lucia is also set to welcome back Westjet and Sunwing in the weeks ahead with new nonstop service.
