HX Introduces Greenland Promise Amid Political Uncertainty

HX Expeditions has launched a new Greenland Promise amid geopolitical uncertainty with the island following U.S. President Trump’s repeated claims to take the island for the United States, which Greenland and members of NATO have rejected. 

The cruise line has operated within Greenland for over twenty years, and its itineraries visiting the island were designed by Greenlanders. Cultural ambassadors and storytellers, including chefs, are also Greenlandic, with a specific menu designed by Greenlandic chefs, including HX Culinary Ambassador Chef Inunnguaq Hegelund. 

While the political discourse might be alarming, no itineraries are impacted, and HX Expeditions is planning to operate its 2026 spring and summer voyages to the island without change this year.

However, each of the line’s nine different Greenland itineraries are now covered by the Greenland Promise, which promises that, in the “highly unlikely scenario” the line must cancel a Greenland cruise, or the guest’s government advises against traveling to Greenland, the guest can then change their booking to another HX voyage without penalty and receive an additional 20 percent Future Cruise Credit for a future cruise—or a full refund. 

During the 2024-25 travel season, HX managed the largest tourism turnaround in Nuuk, Greenland’s history, welcoming over 1,000 travelers through the capital city’s new international airport and setting single-day passenger records on Air Greenland flights. 

HX is the largest expedition cruise operator in Greenland by passenger number and remains committed to working with the Greenlandic people to support sustainable, responsible tourism.
