Eurail, the iconic brand of European rail passes, is getting a new name and a new global identity.

As of September 10, 2026, the company is retiring the Eurail name and bringing all travelers exploring Europe by rail with its passes under the same banner: Interrail.

The change is only in the name, not the product, with the same travel benefits and flexibility continuing under the new Interrail moniker. Beginning September 10, travelers from the U.S. and other non-European countries will simply purchase an Interrail Pass rather than a Eurail Pass.

For more than 60 years, Eurail Passes have helped millions of travelers from outside Europe discover the continent by train, while European residents have purchased Interrail Passes to explore their home continent. Now, the two are becoming one global brand and one global community.

Introducing The Interrail Effect

In addition to the name change comes the introduction of The Interrail Effect, a new global brand platform built around the idea that European rail travel does so much more than just change your physical location. It changes you, too.

The Interrail Effect will revolve around the fact that sometimes the best part of a European rail journey isn’t the destination you reach at the end of the line. It’s the conversation with the person sitting across the aisle that turns into a lifelong friendship, the dining car happy hour with your partner or the little town that flashes past your window in a blink and makes you think, “I have to come back here one day.”

And that’s something longtime European rail travelers already know.

The Interrail Effect is intended to capture that transformation, highlighting the confidence, fresh perspectives, friendships and memories that can come from traveling more deeply rather than simply ticking destinations off a list.

“For years, we’ve asked people where they want to go. The more interesting question is who they’ll become when they return,” said Özlem Birkalan, Chief Brand and Commercial Officer at Interrail.

The Interrail Effect will shape Interrail’s future campaigns, content, community initiatives, partnerships and customer experiences.

What Changes for Travelers and Advisors?

For American travelers, the biggest change is pretty simple: Eurail passes are no longer being sold. If you already purchased a Eurail Pass before September 10, don’t worry, though. Your pass remains valid according to its existing terms and conditions.

Eurail.com and related Eurail URLs and social media channels are also being retired, with customers and followers automatically redirected to Interrail’s websites and social media accounts.

The important thing to remember is that this is a brand consolidation, not a change in the product. The Interrail Pass will continue to offer the same travel benefits to customers globally.

And this should make things a whole lot simpler.

For years, when I would talk with Europeans about exploring Europe by rail, they would tell me they had “Interrailed,” and I’d have to explain, “I Eurail-ed; it’s the same thing, but for non-Europeans.” Well, there’s no need for those conversations anymore.

And we can finally put an end to the occasional awkward discussion over whether the Eurail Pass was pronounced “Your-Rail” or “Eurorail.” Now, it's just Interrail.

For travel advisors, if you’re booking a new rail-pass trip for an American client, Interrail is now the name you need to know.

There’s no need to relearn the product, however. The pass itself and its travel benefits remain the same.

The Bottom line: The name is changing, but the experience isn’t. And rail is still the best way to explore Europe.
