WestJet has announced that they are now offering gift cards on their website, which can not only be used directly with the airline, but can also be redeemed through travel agents.
"The gift of flight is the gift of experience, adventure and travel to any of WestJet's more than 100 destinations across North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe," said Marshall Wilmot, chief loyalty officer at WestJet. "You can now give and receive the gift of travel, whether that is to cover the entire cost of someone's ticket or make a contribution; it's a very special gift to give."
WestJet gift cards are now available for purchase on the WestJet website in either plastic or eCards and can be used to pay for travel (including seat selection and taxes and fees) for flights operated by WestJet or WestJet Encore. However, gift cards cannot be used to purchase WestJet Vacations packages or codeshare flights operated by a partner airline.
In addition, WestJet git cards cannot be used for baggage fees, change and cancellation fees, same-day airport changes, seat upgrade fees, kennel fees, unaccompanied minor fees, group bookings, onboard meals (whether prepurchased or Buy on Board), WestJet Connect (inflight Wi-Fi and movies), Cargo, or Car/Hotel/Insurance bookings.
WestJet's gift cards are available in denominations from $25 to $2,000 per card and can be combined with a credit card when redeeming for travel through WestJet or a travel agent.
Travel agents clients can redeem WestJet gift cards for bookings made using the GDS or WestJet Agent. Since WestJet Agent now accepts two forms of payment, agents simply apply both the WestJet gift card and a credit card to the booking. For GDS bookings, use UATP as the form of payment. For redemption through the GDS involving two forms of payment, refer to your GDS requirements or contact your GDS representative.
